Toyota-affiliated supplier Toyoda Gosei Co. plans to expand its North American headquarters in suburban Detroit, investing about $8 million and adding about 50 jobs.

The company’s U.S. unit supplies products such as safety systems, sealing systems, fuel systems and optoelectronics to Toyota Motor Corp., General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. The Michigan office oversees North American operations, engineering and sales.

Toyoda Gosei had planned to move the office to Louisville, Ky., but decided to remain in suburban Detroit and accepted a $250,000 business development grant from the state of Michigan. The company has operations in Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, Canada and Mexico.

Toyota owns about 43 percent of the supplier. Toyoda Gosei, of Japan, ranks No. 28 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers, with estimated worldwide sales to automakers of $7.2 billion during the 2012 fiscal year.
